CPRE Sussex

Farmers across the South Downs have joined forces to create an online portal as they aim to work closer together to care for the landscape.

Although Mid Sussex District Council (MSDC) can allocate sites for development, it cannot build the sites out itself and is therefore reliant on developers to deliver against the huge housing target for the District. In our last update we reported on the increasing backlog in the delivery of new homes within Mid Sussex district sufficient to meet the delivery target, despite the increasing number of planning consents granted. That is a growing problem.

Members survey

In the Autumn we sent our members a survey form. To ensure that CPRE Sussex is addressing our member’s priorities, we asked which five issues, from a list of eleven, you think we should concentrate on in 2020. Thanks to respondents to the survey – we very much appreciate the time you spent on it.

During these troubling times the most important thing is the safety and welfare of staff, volunteers, supporters and the wider public. At CPRE Sussex we have been continuously monitoring the situation and making plans for business continuity and staff/volunteer welfare. We remain open for business but we are taking steps to reduce risks.

Flooding: A feature of the future

After three named storms, Ciara, Dennis and Jorge, and prolonged periods of heavy rain, communities across the UK are, yet again, subject to flooding.

National Workouts and Wellbeing week starts on 23 March and is a great time for everyone to get out into the countryside.

Our national climate change policy and the Paris accord don't just have legal implications for airport expansion in the UK. CPRE Sussex believe that we must rethink fracking and other forms of oil extraction too.

We have an exciting programme of tours and talks and walks this year!
