Founded in 1972, CPRE Sussex was born out of the tireless fund raising efforts of Mrs E C Harden of Cuckfield. Tasked with raising sufficient funds to enable the formation of Sussex Branch, Mrs Harden collected £425 in just three months (in 1968!) from door to door collections in her village. She ran many prestigious events to raise funds and increase membership. Coffee Mornings to Piano Recitals and Elizabethan Banquets, these events were held at some of Sussex ' s most prestigious venues including Herstmonceux and Arundel Castles. If you would like to help us run an event to raise funds to support our work we would be delighted to hear from you! Please visit our Volunteers pages for further information.

The inaugural meeting of the Sussex Branch was held on the 27 th November 1972 with the Duke of Norfolk as Patron with Mr R O Dennys OBE, MVO, FSA, Somerset Herald of Arms) in the chair.

Since our formation CPRE Sussex Branch has become a powerful voice in the planning process.
