West Sussex Tranquillity Map

In West Sussex the impact of arterial routes, major settlements and Gatwick flight paths are clear. The most tranquil areas are restricted to the protected South Downs and High Weald AONBs. The impact of the major towns (Horsham, Crawley, Haywards Heath and Chichester ) and coastal conurbations (Bognor, Littlehampton and Worthing) are striking, with low tranquillity scores across the urban fringe into the adjoining countryside.  These areas are of great concern providing an essential green lung for their residents to escape into the countryside for peace and tranquillity.

The Gatwick Diamond has been targeted for additional growth over the next 20 years as outlined in the South East Plan (view our comments on SE Plan EiP). Already this area has very low tranquillity scores which can only be exacerbated by further development.
