What can we do?

With new regulations in place to make the designation of Quiet Lanes easier, now is the time to make your County Council aware of any suitable roads which would benefit from the scheme.

Residents at Hurstpierpoint are currently campaigning for Quiet Lanes designation in their area, and West Sussex County Council is in the process of considering their request. The Council will look at each case on its own merits.

With increasing public pressure, more local authority funding and staff may be allocated towards developing the Quiet Lanes initiative. Without public pressure neither East nor West Sussex County Council seem likely to drive the scheme forward. Your help and support for the scheme is paramount.

If you want a rural road (or roads) to be designated under the Quiet Lanes scheme, you should contact your local Parish Council. If you live in West Sussex you can also email: highwaysandtransporthq@westsussex.gov.uk

A national CPRE booklet (see below) provides details on how to encourage local authorities to designate country roads as Quiet Lanes. For more information, please see the links below or contact us via: info@cpresussex.org.uk
