IKEA development struggling with viability

CPRE Sussex is urging Adur Council to think again over plans to build an IKEA and 600 homes on water meadows at New Monks Farm in Lancing after it emerged that the scheme’s predicted development costs have more than doubled, raising serious questions over its viability.

New transport strategy for the Sussex Coast presented to Eastbourne MP Stephen Lloyd by the South Coast Alliance for Transport and Environment.

On Sunday 22 July 2018 CPRE Sussex joined the festivities at the Binsted Strawberry Fair. Over 1200 people attended the fair on a very hot day and many people were concerned about plans for growth in Arun.

CPRE Sussex is warning that the Government’s new planning rules (NPPF) published yesterday on July 24, will make it more difficult than ever to protect some of Sussex's most beautiful countryside.

CPRE Sussex lobbies for a better NPPF

CPRE Sussex Chair, David Johnson and Trustee and Chair of the Protect Sussex Group, Dr Roger Smith wrote to all Sussex MPs with concerns about the new NPPF. Their Letter (see below) outlined why the new NPPF would not lead to the right outcomes for local people and the environment.

CPRE Sussex AGM 2018

Our 2018 AGM was a great success at the home of the South Downs National Park in Midhurst.

The Sussex branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England is urging Adur District Council to suspend its decision on plans to build an IKEA superstore and 600 new homes in Lancing following a formal request for government intervention.

The Arun District Local plan - with a housing requirement of at least 1,000 homes a year (or 20,000 homes by 2031) has been found sound despite the examining inspector highlighting the "significant negative effects" of its housing allocation policies on the environment.

An unprecedented open letter has been sent to Adur District Council urging it to cancel this month’s crunch meeting on proposals for a major new development including an IKEA superstore at New Monks Farm in Lancing.
