CPRE Sussex fights for a better future for the Countryside. We work locally to protect, shape and enhance our beautiful, thriving countryside for everyone to value and enjoy. Our campaigning aims to influence decision making on a range of environmental and land- use issues.

At CPRE Sussex we have an exciting opportunity for a Fundraising Events Co-ordinator to help us with our core work.

Activities involve:

  • contributing ideas for fundraising events based on experience, contacts and interests
  • taking a lead in organising fundraising events for the branch, seeking to maximise income
  • working with fundraising volunteers to support events and maximising income.
  • building relationships with local businesses/corporates to negotiate sponsorship
  • researching the possibility of CPRE members, supporters and patrons who have celebrated homes or gardens contributing to the events programme
  • attending shows and exhibitions
  • ensuring events recruit new members for longer-term financial benefit
  • gathering names at events for future follow-up and creating mailing lists
  • contributing to the branch’s overall fundraising strategy and bringing a fundraising angle to all branch activities
  • being an advocate for the charity at all times - asking people to join, giving out leaflets, gathering names of interested parties and talking about our work

Fundraising Events Co-ordinators would be involved in all aspects of planning an event including:

  • agreeing a budget with the Executive Committee
  • designing posters and leaflets, with the help of volunteers or outside agencies
  • distributing printed publicity material to promote the event
  • arranging advertising and circulating information online
  • researching and inviting dignitaries/local celebrities to attend
  • sourcing staging, audio equipment, catering and all other necessary resources
  • arranging photography for the event
  • managing the day and providing feedback afterwards
  • ensuring good media coverage

What we need from you:

Our branch office is in Blackboys, East Sussex, so you have the choice to either work from here or work at home. We keep in regular contact via phone and/or email to discuss progress and to provide support. You would also be encouraged to attend group meetings. You will report to a specific Trustee with fund-raising responsibilities.

This is an opportunity to play a valued role in a respected environmental organisation, gain satisfaction from planning and managing successful events, meet new people and be part of a friendly and passionate group.

Ideally, we hope that you can offer us most of the qualities described below:

  • some experience of running or being involved in event management
  • confident at contacting people by phone: being clear, professional and to-the-point
  • well organised and able to keep clear, accurate records
  • able to work to deadlines and be responsible for following through on agreements/arrangements
  • able to work as a team player, be flexible and willing to adapt
  • computer literate - the internet, e-mail and MS Word or equivalent
  • an interest in the countryside

As a guide, we anticipate this voluntary role will take 3-8 hours per week, with additional time in the run up to an event. Times are flexible.

What’s in it for you?

CPRE volunteers are motivated to help for a range of reasons, but normally they have a strong interest in protecting and enhancing the environment, as well as encouraging people to enjoy the countryside and all it has to offer.

Benefits include:

  • A great opportunity to use your existing experience and to develop new skills
  • Working with others to make a difference both locally and nationally
  • The potential to meet and discuss issues with a wide range of like-minded people
  • Opportunities to attend local and national CPRE activities, events and workshops
  • For those looking to get into event management this is an opportunity to improve your CV and gain valuable practical experience.

The role is voluntary although we will pay all out-of-pocket expenses with prior agreement, in line with our Volunteers Policy.
