Aviation
The Government's Air Transport White Paper of 2003 backed a huge growth in air travel in the coming decades, including Gatwick. We are calling for the Government to rethink the policies in the White Paper to prevent loss of large tracts of our countryside.

South Downs National Park

CPRE Sussex supports the 'South Downs Campaign' which is giving evidence to the re-opened South Downs National Park Inquiry. CPRE Hampshire are leading for CPRE, with our support. The Inquiry is expected to continue taking evidence until April or May 2008 with a final decision from the Secretary of State late in 2008.

Government Response to Petition "Starry Night"

As a result of CPRE's Night Blight campaign, a petition was signed asking the Prime Minister to "ensure that all exterior lights are shaded to direct their light downwards, so as to prevent light polution obscuring the beauty of the night sky"

Details of Petition "For those who live in our towns and cities, the night sky is filled with a dull orange glow punctuated only by the dim glimmer of an occasional bright star or planet. Fitting well designed shades on all exterior lights would stop light leaking wastfully upwards, restoring the glorious beauty of a star strewn sky overhead. Bring back the milky way!"

Intrusion Maps

CPRE maps show the shocking impact of intrusion on our undisturbed countryside. With increased pressure from development in all forms our peaceful countryside could disappear in only 45 years, within the lifetime of our children. 65% of West Sussex countryside is affected by noise and visual intrusion, 56% in East Sussex
