On 24 May CPRE Sussex’s Chair David Johnson attended a rally and spoke at a meeting of the South Downs National Park Authority alongside local people and wildlife groups to urge the Authority to uphold its statutory duty to protect the park and challenge Highways England’s announcement of the preferred route for the Arundel bypass as option 5a.

Landscape Training

Written by CPRE Sussex

On 12th May, 30 noble souls took part in a CPRE Sussex workshop exploring how to assess the significance of the character of landscape in the evaluation of potential development sites.

Following public consultation last year, Highways England have announced the preferred A27 Arundel bypass route. From three possible options, a modified version of Option 5A has been chosen, and consists of a 4-mile dual carriageway between Crossbush junction and a new junction between Binstead Lane and Yapton Lane.

The government is reviewing an important piece of policy that could change the shape of the English countryside for ever. It is rewriting the National Planning Policy Framework – the rules that determine what kind of houses are built, where they go, and whether it is communities or developers who are at the heart of those decisions.
