Are you concerned about the traffic impacts of the proposed IKEA on the A27 between Shoreham and Lancing? Are you concerned about the loss of the Sussex Pad and a deterioration of access to the National Park for walkers, cyclists and equestrians? Are you worried about the impact on wildlife, heritage and the National Park? Do you think the issue of flood risk and the impact on existing properties has been adequately examined?

Action urgently needed. IKEA decision shock

Written by CPRE Sussex

Last night (Oct 3 2018) in a controversial decision, Adur Council decoded by five votes to three to approve the New Monks Farm development. CPRE Sussex are calling on members of the public to urgently write to James Brokenshire MP, Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government to review the decision by calling it in.

Both of these applications are due to be considered by Adur Planning committee on 3rd October 2018.

APPLICATIONS AWDM/0961/17 (New Monks Farm, Lancing) and AWDM/1093/17 (Cecil Pashley Way, Shoreham Airport)

CPRE Sussex is working with local groups to challenge the New Monks Farm developments. Chair, David Johnson, has written to local MPs alerting them to our concerns:

IKEA development struggling with viability

Written by CPRE Sussex

CPRE Sussex is urging Adur Council to think again over plans to build an IKEA and 600 homes on water meadows at New Monks Farm in Lancing after it emerged that the scheme’s predicted development costs have more than doubled, raising serious questions over its viability.

The Sussex branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England is urging Adur District Council to suspend its decision on plans to build an IKEA superstore and 600 new homes in Lancing following a formal request for government intervention.

An unprecedented open letter has been sent to Adur District Council urging it to cancel this month’s crunch meeting on proposals for a major new development including an IKEA superstore at New Monks Farm in Lancing.

Adur & Worthing District Report

Written by CPRE Sussex

Adur District has grown increasingly popular for residents moving from Brighton and London, with Shoreham Beach sometime referred to as ‘a new Sand Banks’ with its grandiose and occasionally prize winning homes replacing old railway carriage based bungalows.

CPRE Sussex has today (28th September) lodged a holding objection to proposals for New Monks Farm at Lancing. Our main concerns relate to the impact on the local road network (particularly the A27,) the impact on the National Park (including access for walkers, equestrians and cyclists) and inadequate measures to prevent flooding. Please feel free to use elements of our response in the letter below to email Adur Council if you would also like to object.
