Planning for the Future of Sussex
District Housing Numbers
The consultation for District Housing numbers across Sussex has now closed. Local Authorities asked residents where they thought the 90,000 new homes recommended by SEERA (South East England Regional Assembly) should be built across the County. We, together with many of our members, played an active part in this process, attending meetings and workshops and submitting our comments formally. We must now wait to see how SEERA uses this information in compiling Part Two of the South East Plan.
The District numbers proposed by SEERA for East Sussex, Brighton and Hove equate to 1,900 new homes per year allocated as follows:
1,350 per year should be built in East Sussex
550 per year Brighton & Hove
In West Sussex SEERA recommended 2,900 new homes per year for the 20 year period.
Gatwick Area 1,400 new homes/year
Sussex Coast 1,100 new homes/year
Rest of West Sussex 400/new homes/year
In many cases the proposed growth is similar to that experienced in recent years across Sussex .
It is essential that SEERA take note of residents' views to ensure the needs of local people are met, in particular with regard to affordable housing and infrastructure. It is also essential to ensure development is on brownfield (previously developed land) to minimise the damage to our beautiful countrsyide.
