South East Plan - Examination in Public (EiP)

The Inspector's Report was published in August 2007. We are bitterly disappointed at the recommendation to increase the housing numbers from 28,900 to 32,000 new homes in the South East each year for the next 20 years. The Region target of 640,000 new homes will have a huge impact on the environnment in this area where resources are so stretched. For Sussex the additional homes pose a serious threat to our greenfields. In particular, our water supplies and transport systems are already stretched to the limit. We must now await the Government's decision whether to accept the Inspector's recommendations.

We have been working closely with our colleagues in Surrey and the South East Regional Group to produce written statements on the inspectors' questions that affect Sussex.
