Hedgerows, trees and woodlands

We want more tree planting in Sussex and better protection for hedgerows and woodlands.

In Brighton & Hove we are helping community groups to plant trees. Find out about our Plant Your Postcode and Forgotten Places projects and see our trees resources for children.

In much of Sussex there’s still a patchwork of hedgerows and woodlands. Hedgerows signal the seasons for us from the first bright green new leaves in spring to the clusters of blackberries in the autumn. Our trees and woodlands enhance the landscape and store carbon, helping to slow climate change. They provide homes for wildlife, including nest sites and song posts for many of our familiar birds.
