Who's Who at CPRE Sussex
Paul Steedman Director
Our Director, Paul, has lived in Sussex for nearly 20 years. Passionate about our beautiful countryside, Paul can often be found, with his partner and young daughter, up on the Downs, down by the sea and traversing our fields and woodlands, exploring Sussex’s rich wildlife and heritage.
Paul brings a wealth of policy and campaigning experience to our work, with past roles at consumer champion the National Consumer Council; thinktank the Food Ethics Council; and environmental campaigners Friends of the Earth, where he was involved in campaigns on energy, air pollution and saving our bees.
A former local councillor and planning committee member, Paul has worked closely with politicians at every level of government on shaping a greener future for all of us, drawing on his Masters degree in Leadership for Sustainable Development.
A regular volunteer at the Brighton and Hove Food Partnership’s Stanmer Wellbeing Gardens project, Paul’s also a keen cyclist, walker and birdwatcher – and a great supporter of Sussex’s many fantastic pubs and brewers.
Corinne Stuart Chair
Corinne brings over 15 years’ experience working with membership organisations, including the Royal Institution and Countryside Alliance. She’s a natural connector, passionate about engaging people and building lasting support for causes she believes in.
She now leads a national professional body, where she’s responsible for its overall direction and financial health.
Born in Sussex and raised in Kent, Corinne returned to East Sussex in 2019. Her family has deep roots in the Heathfield farming community, and her lifelong love of the countryside is shaped by early memories of rich wildlife and open landscapes —many of which are now under threat.
As Chair of CPRE Sussex, Corinne is dedicated to growing support across the county and helping protect the countryside so it can be enjoyed by future generations.

Prof Dan Osborn Vice Chair
Dan is Professor of Human Ecology at University College London (UCL).
He is co-Chair of UCL’s Environment Domain, maintaining an overview of the different aspects of environmental research. His own interests concern how people’s wellbeing relates to their environment and its natural resources.
Dan works closely with the Sussex Community Development Association to encourage people who do not make use of green space to do so to benefit their wellbeing.
He co-led the chapter on ‘People and the Built Environment’ in the Evidence Report for the 2nd UK Climate Risk Assessment published in 2016, contributing sections on flooding and the risks coastal communities face from a changing climate.
Before joining UCL, Dan had several roles with the Research Council including the cross-government research initiative Living With Environmental Change. As Chair of the British Ecological Society’s Policy Committee, he helped initiate discussions between ecologists and economists that led to the National Ecosystem Assessment published in 2011 and 2014.
Dan has worked with businesses, charities, national and local government in the UK, with the European Commission and various Parliamentary groups on a range of legislative and best practice issues. Much of his work has involved protecting the health and wellbeing of people and the environment and ensuring that resources are used more sustainably.
