How your membership makes a difference 

For more than 50 years, CPRE Sussex has successfully fought to protect and enhance the Sussex countryside. In the 1970s we began working with farmers to protect trees and hedgerows. In the 1980s we opposed the defacing effect of oil exploration. In the 1990s we successfully challenged home building targets imposed on local councils. Since the turn of the millennium, notable victories have included the formation of the South Downs National Park and becoming pioneers in the fight against fracking. 

Today, our work to protect our beautiful landscapes and unique nature from inappropriate development and the threats of climate change and pollution continue. We are bringing practical solutions, citizen science and campaigning to regenerate the Sussex countryside. We are campaigning for greater use of brownfield sites for development and action to tackle the affordable rural housing crisis. Our rooftop solar campaign highlights the potential to generate renewable energy while protecting valuable landscapes. We are supporting communities to plant more trees in their streets and parks. 

None of this would be possible without our fantastic membership. As a small charity, CPRE Sussex only has a handful of part-time staff. More members means more influence with decision makers. Your membership fees can help us train more volunteers to scrutinise developers’ plans or fund staff to explain research to Sussex MPs and councillors. When you join CPRE Sussex you are helping to shape a greener future for Sussex.

As a member of CPRE Sussex you become part of a vibrant community of like-minded people. You also get a host of member benefits including advance and discounted bookings for our events, discounted access to houses and gardens across the county and access to our Book Club. 

You will receive full editions of our informative Sussex Reviews and newsletters, plus the chance to receive training to help you protect, celebrate and regenerate the Sussex countryside. 

You can also work with and support us in lots of other ways, such as volunteering or fundraising. 

When you join CPRE Sussex you also become a member of the national CPRE charity. On returning the membership form, your data will be passed to the national CPRE head office so they can also stay in touch.  Please be assured we do not share, sell, or swap your information with other organisations outside CPRE.

Like the majority of CPRE groups, CPRE Sussex is a separate registered charity. Your membership contributions are shared between the national CPRE and the CPRE Sussex charities.
