Our vision
The Sussex countryside is a special place, underpinning the historic county’s economy, ecology, and health and wellbeing. But our countryside is under threat from a multitude of sources: private developers, political interests, climate change and pollution. CPRE Sussex has the experience and expertise to fight for our countryside.
We are your local CPRE in Sussex.
Our vision: a beautiful, thriving and sustainable Sussex countryside, that enriches all our lives.
We seek to shape a greener future for Sussex by protecting, celebrating and regenerating the Sussex countryside and green spaces.
We champion the Sussex countryside through our actions:
- Protect: resist excessive and poor development in Sussex to protect landscapes, natural systems and green spaces, while supporting genuinely affordable housing and tackling climate change.
- Celebrate: inspire people with a love of the Sussex countryside, and enable everyone to access its transcendent beauty, and the health and wellbeing it brings
- Regenerate: create a greener future for Sussex through practical action and policy change, to restore clean water and air and flourishing nature, and build a thriving, equitable, economy that links rural and urban Sussex.
For over 50 years, we have been working with local communities to defend the Sussex countryside from inappropriate development and to promote affordable housing, public transport, sustainable farming and tree planting.
We engage with decision makers, influencing and challenging them to protect the Sussex countryside and green spaces. We inform on environmental issues and empower individuals and communities with robust evidence to defend and enhance the green spaces they love. We research and provide advice on planning issues. We believe in collaborating with others to ensure a greener future for our county.
But the work is far from over. With the Sussex countryside facing more threats than ever, we will continue to fight for the natural world that we love. The countryside is for all and should be protected not only for us, but for the generations to come.
