CPRE Sussex writes to Chichester District Council about housing target

5th May 2020

Today (5 May) CPRE Sussex Chair, Dan Osborn, wrote to the chair of Chichester District Council about its housing target.

He explained that in developing a new local plan for Chichester District, we want the council to set a realistic housing target that takes into account the local geography (protected landscapes and the impact of climate change) and the impact of Coronavirus, instead of accepting the ‘standard method.’

We don’t want the council’s current position, in terms of its local plan, to lead to a loss of ‘control’ over development – we think the council still has good grounds upon which to refuse speculative and unsustainable development and we hope the council will be ‘robust’ in its decision making.

We also want to ensure that although the council is under a lot of pressure at the moment, planning decisions are still made democratically and transparently and have asked the council how they plan to do this.
