Have your say on the Lewes District Local Plan

24th February 2026

Lewes District Council is consulting residents on its Local Plan Phase 2 – Regulation 18 ‘A Spatial Strategy for Development in our Plan Area (incorporating Site Allocations)’.

The Local Plan will provide a planning framework for the plan area to 2042. It seeks to respond to the three overarching principles of sustainable development – social, economic and environmental. It aims to guide sustainable growth, meet housing and employment needs, and protect the environment.

Phase one of the consultation was held in January and February 2025 and focused on detailed policies for the plan area and considered a few early site allocations.

The second phase of the consultation from 18 December 2025 to 28 February 2026 focuses on establishing a new Spatial Strategy and Site Allocations for development, replacing the existing Local Plan, which expires in 2030.

This consultation sets out a spatial strategy and identifies sites for 8,568 net new homes over the plan period. This is against a government target of approximately 15,000 new homes.
