CPRE Sussex launches campaign against ‘dangerous’ planning document

14th July 2026

CPRE Sussex urges MPs to demand revisions to the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) – and asks residents to join the fight.

CPRE Sussex is calling for revisions to a ‘dangerous’ national planning policy document.

CPRE Sussex has drafted a letter sounding the alarm over the draft National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).

The charity says, unless it is revised, the latest NPPF will cause irrevocable damage and destruction to green spaces.

Concerns include overloading sewage and water systems, a lack of action on climate change and ‘failing to even come close’ to adequate provision of affordable housing.

The NPPF also undermines the countryside itself – removing references to valued landscapes outside nationally designated areas and the intrinsic value of the countryside.

CPRE Sussex campaigns and communications manager Nancy Duckels said: “Perhaps our biggest fear is that the NPPF will eradicate public scrutiny in planning decisions. In speeding up the housebuilding process, the government would see local democracy and examination stripped away. We will be powerless to argue against destructive development in our villages, towns and countryside.”

CPRE Sussex is calling for MPs to demand revisions to the NPPF.

It wants stronger protections for local voices, the environment and water systems, action on climate change and improved affordable housing provision.

The charity has drafted a letter which residents can tailor and send to their MP.
