CPRE Sussex responds to delay in Sussex mayoral elections until May 2028
CPRE Sussex has warned that delaying Sussex’s mayoral elections for another two years should not mean that local issues should be on pause as well.
Paul Steedman, Director of CPRE Sussex, said: “It is critical that this delay does not put Sussex’s big issues – climate breakdown, nature recovery, genuinely affordable housing for social rent on sustainable, brownfield sites – on pause too.
“Ministers are already squeezing nature and local communities out of planning decisions in favour of massive developers.
“We can’t wait for over two years for leadership on a strategic plan for Sussex that puts the countryside, climate, nature and people struggling to make the rent, front and centre; we need that action now.”
