CPRE Sussex seeks to protect West Chiltington countryside from development
Planning application (DC/24/1619) is on land to The West of Smock Alley, South of Little Haglands, West Chiltington.
The application is for erection of 14 two, three and four-bedroom dwellings, including four bungalows with access from Smock Alley, vehicle parking, public open space, landscaping and a borehole.
CPRE Sussex has objected to the planning application. which is a resubmission of an application previously rejected by Horsham District Council. There are issues with the application in relation to the Council’d housing land supply and the status of its local plan.
The proposed development conflicts with the local plan policy to protect the character and appearance of the area, including through removal of ten trees.
Noise and light pollution issues are not adequately addresses.
Biodiversity is not protected, particularly in the case of Barbastelle bats and wild birds.
Whether the proposal would meet the community’s need for affordable rented homes is in doubt.
