Events enjoyed by members, supporters and volunteers in 2024
We organise loads of walks, talks and visits, plus volunteering opportunities. Below are events held so far in 2024.
26 & 27 January and 22 & 25 February: Hedgerow planting at Hartfield – volunteer opportunity
Opportunity to do conservation work and make a positive difference to our countryside and wildlife. Our enthusiastic, friendly team of hedgerow planting volunteers planted a brand-new stretch of hedgerow.

22 & 23 February: Help plant a community orchard in East Brighton Park
1 & 3 March: Help plant a community orchard in Happy Valley Park, Brighton
We joined forces with the Brighton Permaculture Trust and worked in partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council’s Tree Planting Team. Volunteers planted fruit and nut trees.

14 April: Explore Binsted – guided walk led by Dr Geoffrey Mead, Sussex Landscape expert
Binstead is an idyllic spot – English landscape personified…….but it is threatened by A27 road expansion. The walk explored the fields,copse and dells on the West Sussex coastal plain.

11/12 & 18/19 May: Brighton & Hove Tree Festival
The Festival highlighted the value of trees to the city and its residents, From walks to tree trails, there were activities for everyone to enjoy.

5 June: Around Falmer with Dr Geoffrey Mead
A walk around the boundary path of the University of Sussex, ending with a pond and a pub!

13 June: Winchelsea cellars tour and guided town walk

7 September: CPRE Sussex Countryside Day
Countryside supporters of all ages enjoyed talks, tours, stalls and kids’ activities. They could see Knepp’s flourishing wildlife – and visit the beautiful Wilding Café and Shop.
Visitors also learned more about CPRE Sussex’s work to protect, promote and celebrate the countryside and urban green spaces.

8 September: Visit Rye Harbour with Dr Geoffrey Mead
Walkers explored Rye Harbour nature reserve. They enjoyed coastal vegetation and open skies.

13 October: Sussex lost and found – working lives across the centuries
The event was part of the annual Shoreham Wordfest. It was led by David Johnson, CPRE Sussex Vice-Chair. During the day participants explored impacts on the lives of ordinary people in Sussex from medieval times to the start of the twentieth century.
