CPRE Sussex backs CAGNE at Gatwick Airport judicial review

Charity says Government has made the ‘wrong decision’ by allowing a second runway.

CPRE Sussex director Paul Steedman stood shoulder-to-shoulder with those fighting Gatwick Airport expansion at the High Court today (20 January).

The Government’s flawed decision to grant a Development Consent Order for a second runway is under scrutiny during a four-day judicial review hearing.

Communities Against Gatwick Noise Emissions (CAGNE) is challenging the approval on a range of grounds including climate impact, noise pollution, wastewater treatment and national aviation policy.

Paul Steedman, director of CPRE Sussex, said: “The government has simply got its decision on Gatwick wrong. Airport expansion is wrong for residents, who’ll suffer more noise, more air pollution and more congestion. It’s wrong for the tranquillity of protected countryside in Sussex, Surrey and Kent. It’s wrong for the climate. And we believe the decision was made in the wrong way too. That’s why we’re backing CAGNE’s legal challenge to a second runway at Gatwick today”.
