Gatwick expansion Judicial Review launched by CAGNE denied

The High Court has ruled against the Judicial Review brought by CAGNE against the Secretary of State for Transport’s permission to allow a new runway at Gatwick Airport.

A High Court Ruling has dismissed the Judicial Review, which was backed by CPRE Sussex as well as fundraising from Sussex communities.

CPRE Sussex Campaigns and Communications Manager Nancy Duckels said: “The government’s decision is the latest in a series of assaults on the Sussex countryside. Climate change is the single biggest threat to our countryside. The expansion of Gatwick Airport will significantly increase greenhouse gas pollution, while also bringing more noise, congestion and air pollution to neighbouring communities and protected landscapes.

“This is a very disappointing result that cannot go unchallenged. Economic growth – if that even comes – cannot come at the cost of public health. We stand with CAGNE and the Sussex communities who know this is a terrible decision for the Sussex countryside.”
