‘No’ to variation to Horsham incinerator application
CPRE Sussex has objected to Britaniacrest Recycling Limited’s application to vary the design of the proposed incinerator its Horsham site because of risks to health and global warming.
Britaniacrest Recycling Limited has submitted to the Environment Agency a Variation Application (EPR/CB3308TD/V002) for its Wealden Works Recycling, Recovery and Renewable Energy Facility, Langhurstwood Road, Horsham, RH12 4Q.
A letter from CPRE Trustee, Dr Roger Smith, to the Environment Agency highlights the need for assessment of the impact on global warming of emissions of nitrous oxide, carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide over the lifetime of the facility. Dr Smith also calls for the toxicity of pollutants, which would be emitted by the facility, to be assessed for the effect on people’s health.
In view of the lack of data in the application and the risks to climate change and people’s health, CPRE Sussex has advised the Environment Agency to refuse the application.
