Wealden Local Plan should take more account of ‘exceptional circumstances’
Wealden Council have a draft Local Plan in hand that takes too little account of the valuable landscapes and conservation sites that cover much of the District.
It is clear the Government expects District Councils to take account of such exceptional circumstances but the draft Plan does not do this in a way that protects the exceptional character of the District.
Very surprisingly, some Wealden Councillors felt unable to take part in the meeting to discuss the draft Plan following advice from officers regarding a conflict of interest. Some Councillors walked out, including the Conservative group, whilst others, clearly upset or puzzled, felt they had to follow the advice given even though their interests in any sites were probably insignificant and they withdrew.
A Recent High Court case hinged on ‘misleading’ advice given by officials. Watch this space!
