Yet more shredded litter along A27 - time for action

18th August 2020

CPRE Sussex is part of the A27 Clean up Campaign which want Highways England to be responsible for picking up litter on the A27 before strimming roadside verges.

Local authorities are currently responsible for litter picking, while Highways England is responsible for strimming vegetation. There are repeated incidents where litter is shredded during vegetation strimming, as the photos show. Once the litter is shredded it is almost impossible to pick up and causes pollution and harm to wildlife. This situation cannot continue.

Please ask your local MP to put pressure on the Department for Transport to make Highways England take on litter picking responsibilities.
