Save our countryside from excessive house building

Support the petition to ‘Halt harmful housing with new environmental planning law’.

The petition asks the Government to end the loss of greenfield sites – our countryside – to volume house building, by creating a new strong environmental planning law.

We don’t need more executive houses; we need sustainable homes on brownfield sites on which there is a space for over 1 million new homes.

A new environmental planning law and a radical, urgent update of the National Planning Policy Framework could protect farmland to increase our food security; conserve our landscape of woodlands and meadows, which provide homes for our wildlife; and help us to meet the challenges of climate change.
